A Special Visit

Hello everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed all the interviews from last week now 

I'm on to post my small trip to Hollywood.

On the Monday of my birthday my family visited me  from LA and we eat together then had ice cream cake and then later went out to the drive in. Then on Wednesday I went to Hollywood and visited a museum and 

a few vintage shops!! Now I took so many pictures I wanted to share with you of the museum I deiced to make it 2 posts !!

Interview- Special Guest

Today we have came to an end of the interviews and I deiced to

interview someone that has known me my whole life and has inspired me everyday

my older sister. she will probably hate all the pics I post but there my favorites so enjoy.

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

It would have to be the 1950's reason being that everything was much better there weren't as many electronics and many things that you don't need. People were more self sufficient and things were nicer also especially the clothes!!

What was your first vintage piece??

My first piece was when I was 4 years old it was a dress from the 50's my mom use to put on me they say it had belong to my great aunt's daughter.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why? 

 My favorite designer from the by gone years would have to be Jacques Fath  he was the one that sarted the "new look" he was daring at the time but still contemporary.

 

Name a blog your fond of.

 Well actually I'm going to say my younger sisters because I don't blog or really see other blogs.

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

The makeup I'm a coming out makeup artist and love to do different makeup looks from the 1900s-1960's  my idol is Maximilian Faktorowicz aka Max Factor his creation of makeup I think is the best creation for every women.

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

Well to style my hair I usually like to have it set in pin curls if I'm in a hurry I do a quick page boy.

What do you like best about yourself?

 I don't know what to say as for this question I guess my attitude the way I am always cheerful and I try to help other people the best that I can.

Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!

My great aunt she was  a style icon to me she was a great person and in the 50's the best rockabilly dame you could meet!!

Interview: Vixen Vintage

I hope everyone enjoyed Andi's interview =) now where on to today's interview with the lovely Solanah.

Here blog is pretty much amazing she has a vary swanky wardrobe, regularly inspiring posts and mixes it up often which is a plus in my book!! Her blog is one of the ones that I can't wait  to show up on my blogger dashboard!!

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

Probably the 1950s, not just for the clothing, but because it had so many modern conveniences. But mostly for the clothes ;)

What was your first vintage piece??

I don't know my very first, but when I was younger my Aunt, http://lifeinapinkhouse.blogspot.com/, used to give me her vintage hand-me-downs, because she wore vintage too. So I had all these 40s and 50s dresses for dress up, which eventually found their way into my closet. I still have one dress from that little collection, a 1940s linen frock with pink and black circles on the print. 

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

Coco Chanel, she did so much not just for fashion, but for personal style. When she started out, she was the odd duck, but eventually became a leader of style and fashion. Some of her original designs are classics and still stand strong today, like the cardigan for women, little black dress, two toned shoes, and costume jewelry.

But there are so many! Well, since you've already interviewed some of my favorite vintage ladies, I suppose I can mention this blog which I keep going back to:

Her photography is fantastic, and her travels really make me want to Iceland! She just captures everything so beautifully, something I'm still trying to do on my own blog. 

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

Well something I really envy about past eras compared to now is the amount of attractiveness in everyday things. Everything was pretty: sewing machines, doorknobs, radios, even toilet paper! (I'm on a pink toilet paper obsession right now, hehe). 

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

Pin curls are my weapon of choice. Having thick hair, I do them every other night, and they hold well. Then it's usually just a hat or comb, or nothing at all! 

What do you like best about yourself?

My contradictions. I'm a pices, which is two fishies swimming in different directions, so I'm always full of opposites. Sometimes I hate it, sometimes I love it (seee?!), but it keeps things interesting, and pushes me to explore things I wouldn't, if I had a taste for only one type of thing. 

Do you have a style icon?? If so please so do tell!!

I think I take most of my style inspiration from other vintage bloggers, old photos, and family members. I could never choose just one!

Interview: Andi B. Goode

 Hello everyone!! I hope you all have enjoyed the interviews so far!!

Today I'll be interviewing Andi from Andi B. Goode her blog is really cute and her vintage style is unique from the 1930-1960s. Now on to her interview....

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

To be honest, I'm happy I was born when I was (1986, for reference). The world isn't perfect now – in many ways it's far from it - but it never has been. For one thing I can't imagine having less freedom as a woman not to mention other groups of people (but I won't get too political) and, of course, I love my mod cons. That's not to say there aren't certain aspects of the past that I don't long for (obviously!) but they're mainly superficial and to do with the aesthetics of certain eras – trust me, if I was given a time machine (and a guarantee I could get back home easily enough) I'd go on the biggest shopping spree you could imagine.

What was your first vintage piece??

The first dress I ever consciously bought as vintage was this one which I got at a Buffalo Exhchange, when I was in California, staying with a friend for a couple of weeks.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

I'm not sure that I have one – just as I don't spend a lot of time following high fashion with current trends, I can't admit to knowing much about fashion designers past. I absolutely adore Horrockses dresses, though. I have the book that V&A put out and, every so often, I like to take it out and pore over the pages. I could nearly cry at how gorgeous these off-the-rack dresses were – they had some really talented textile designers working for them who created absolutely divine fabrics.

Name a blog your fond of.

Oh gosh, just one? Off the top of my head, I'll say Fashion Forestry – fashionforestry.blogspot.com/ - I love Nicole's style and how she can take so many different things and blend them together to create something unique.

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

I think it might be the assumption that all of the mod cons we have are all 100% new and I love being surprised when I realise something is a lot older than I thought it was. A recent example is that the first ever 'answer machine' was initially invented in 1898 and, while it only laid the groundwork for what we now have, it just really fascinated me. Apparently they weren't commercially successful until about 1960, though. It doesn't even have to be something electrical, though. I just love that feeling of...discovery, I guess.

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

I definitely prefer my hair when it's set and, even though I set it the same way all the time, I sometimes do different things with it. I generally prefer it down, though, and with either a little rolled fringe or something and a ribbon or a flower.

What do you like best about yourself?

I suppose that I don't think I've ever really let what other people thought get in the way of expressing myself through my style. To some degree, I've probably cared about how others perceive me (and sometimes still do), but generally it's something I've worked against, if that makes sense. I don't want to think that I've ever compromised my own vision of how I want to present myself to the world because of someone else.

Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!

You know, I'm not sure that I do! I don't think there's one person who I look to for inspiration all the time but I'm constantly inspired by so many different things – other bloggers, vintage snapshots of everyday women, movies (both classic and new set in the past), street fashion and, occasionally, high fashion (like Lena Hoschek's designs). So, while there are definitely a lot of people whose style I adore, I couldn't pick just one as a style icon. I think anyone who is brave enough to express who they are has my vote.

Casey from Caseys Elegant Musings.!! Her blog has everything sewing,inspiration,tutorials,and so much more!! So without further a do here is Caseys interview.

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

    Well, I’m not sure I’d want to really leave the 21st century entirely (I love my modern conveniences—like air conditioning and my computer—too much! lol.), but if I had a time machine I’d go back to the mid 40s. I love the clothing from that portion of the decade and would have the best fun raiding a few shops for cute shoes, dresses and hats! Plus I’d probably stop by a department store to stock up at the pattern counter. Of course I’d also need to have a magic time machine that deals with making my currency relevant to the age! (Don’t want to fork over any bills that say 2011 on them! lol.)

What was your first vintage piece??

    Hm... I’ve been collecting vintage for so long I can’t really remember what it was. hehe. So instead I’ll name my favorite piece I have right now: the beautiful vintage silk kimono I bought before I got married . We had a bit of a Japanese/vintage theme to the wedding, so it was my dream to buy an old kimono to wear that morning while I was getting ready. After months and months of searching I finally scored a gorgeous piece on Ebay It’s beautiful and one of my prize possessions.

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

    I always say this, but it’s so true: I admire Claire McCardell’s aesthetic so much. Her sportswear she designed in the 40s and 50s is gorgeous. Having recently in the past year been able to try on a Claire McCardell dress (sadly, a bit too big for me—otherwise I would have snatched it up!), I can see why to this day her legacy of comfortable and pretty clothes is legendary. I also really admire the Russian émigré designer Valentina (her designing career spanned the 20s through the 50s); she dressed a lot of glamorous socialites and movie stars of the era and had impeccable sense of elegance and a flair for the dramatic.

 Name a blog your fond of.

    Picking just one can be so hard! Right now I’m quite enjoying the Bright Young Twins blog (http://brightyoungtwins.blogspot.com/ ). Those gals have vintage style down to a T (I want to raid their closets!) and I love seeing what new things they post.

 What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

    Clothing. It’s a window into the social perceptions and morals of any era and says a lot about the overall mood of the times and generation designing it as well. As a history geek, clothing is a bit of a surface peek into the deeper currents that run through any era.

 

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

    It varies so much from week-to-week! Last week I was really loving a high 50s inspired ponytail with a bit of a pomp or faux bang in the front. Before that I was curling my hair like crazy. This week I’m quite enamored with braids of various sorts; especially ones that I can wrap around my head or at the back of my neck to keep the hair out of the way.

 What do you like best about yourself?

    This is always a weird question for me—I never know what to say! lol. I would have to say my ability to sew. It’s not a physical trait, but is a skill I have developed over the years and utterly adore. Plus I really enjoy sharing that love and discovery of sewing with others. It also helps feed my appetite for vintage-style clothing! Finding quality vintage is becoming a bit harder every year and being able to tailor clothes to my size and needs using older patterns is a great way to imitate some of the vintage pieces I love but can’t find or afford.

 Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!

    Oooh—another tough one! My mom first and foremost: she taught me the value of dressing properly and well from an early age (on a teeny budget too!). Some of the ladies I’ve come to know through their blogs, like Solanah (http://vixenvintage.blogspot.com/ ), Fleur de Guerre (http://www.diaryofavintagegirl.com/ ), and Quincy (http://qsdaydream.blogspot.com/ ), are also style icons for me. I love when “everyday gals” take a style or look and make it their own, to fit with their lifestyle. To me it’s so much more inspiring than fashion spreads!

Interview: Sweetheart of the Rodeo

Today I'll be interviewing Dakota from Sweetheart of the rodeo
her blog is based on things from the past and her style is impeccable she always has some great finds from the 1900s-1950s. I think everyone should take a look at her blog and you will find it to be quite delightful. Now on to the interview.

*If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??*

I think I'd have to choose the early to mid 1930s; it was a time of great hardship, with the Depression, but also of triumph of the human spirit, and of course incredibly glamorous fashions! I daydream all the time about being a girl back then, running off to become a chorus girl on Broadway, or maybe joining a traveling circus.

*What was your first vintage piece??*

A 1950s aqua colored squaredancing or "squaw" dress; it's covered in ric-rac and ribbons with a great big circle skirt. My mother bought it for me when we were in Santa Fe, New Mexico when I was 15. From the moment I tried it on, it fit me like a glove, and its nipped in waist and full skirt suited my figure like no modern clothes ever had. Its vibrant vintage western look also just matched my personality perfectly. That was the "gateway" dress! (Oh, and I still have it, and wear it all the time!)

*Who is you favorite designer from the past and why? *

I adore Elsa Schiaparelli-- she made such interesting, surrealist clothes! She was truly an innovative designer with such a clever and unique point of view. I also admire Nudie Cohn, for making all those beautiful sequined suits, and Lady Duff Gordon, who made the most decadent and gorgeously detailed gowns in the 1900s and 1910s under the "Lucile" label.

*Name a blog your fond of.*

Honestly, I have so many favorites, I'd feel mean if I picked just one ;) But yours is really wonderful... I wish I'd been half as stylish as you when I was 15!!

*What fascinates you the most from the past eras??*

The aesthetics of the past just seem so much more alluring to me. Even simple house dresses and little household knick-knacks were so beautifully designed! Modern designs just lack soul and ingenuity to me. I also think that before TV, internet, malls, and all our modern conveniences, folks tended to be a little more genuine, creative, and resourceful, which I admire greatly.

*What is your favorite way to style your hair??*

I'm awfully fond of a good old bouffant! Be it sleek and elegant like Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or wildly glamourous like Brigitte Bardot's, "the higher the hair, the closer to God" is my mantra, haha! Unfortunately I recently got my wait-length locks hacked off into a bob, so it'll be a while 'til I can reach for the teasing comb and Aquanet again.

*What do you like best about yourself?*

I'm really really good at finding super cheap vintage. I very rarely pay over $10 for a piece of vintage, and on this budget I've found wonderful pieces from the Edwardian era through the '50s! It's quite the skill ;)

*Do you have a style icon?? If so do tell!!*

I am very inspired by the ladies of old time country music; gals like Maybelle and Sara Carter, Patsy Montana, June Carter, Wanda Jackson, and Loretta Lynn influence me not only with their music, but also with their unabashedly down-home country girl looks. And when I feel like getting all dolled up, I look to my favorite golden era actresses for inspiration, like Claudette Colbert, Ruby Keeler, Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor.

Interview: The Pink Retro Powder Room

I hope you all enjoyed Quincy's  interview!! Today I'll be interviewing Miss Amethyst from The Pink Retro Powder Room. This gal's blog is such a delight its full of vintage hairstyle tutorials and beauty too, adorable outfits, and great finds, plus she young too!!  Now off to the interview !!

If you could have lived in another era what era would it be??

As much as I love the 1940's , I would say 1950's thru the very early 1960's. I tend to gravitate to the petticoats, pearled cardigans, and cat eye glasses.

What was your first vintage piece??

My very first vintage piece was when I was a baby. A1950's yellow infant outfit set. It was chiffon dress with a little jacket and a bonnet. Its so adorable,  in fact I still have it!!

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

Claire McCardell !!

Why well she was the first to create the ' All American Look'. Her clothes are just timeless, it reminds me of what Doris Day and Grace Kelly would wear .I came across a pair of green elegant gloves that I had to buy, and I looked at the tags and it was a original Claire McCardell vintage 50's gloves!!!  I think its pretty neat that she from the area I am from, and we have the same birthday months ( May!)

I love all the blogs that I follow but you are the one of the couple that I jump first to!

 What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

What makes me gravitate to the past is that everything was so well made! Boys were boys, clean cut and well good maners . Girls dressed so pretty everyday, cute sun dresses/ cocktail dresses, with gloves and hats, the perfect dazzling earrings and purse to match!! I just wish we would see more of that!

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

I go thru so many styles / hair cuts. My favorite way ( and its really easy)  is in a roller set that has been combed out and one side is gently pined for a instant 50's look. But when I am in a rush and I want more of a 40's look I do a reverse victory roll in the other side with a cute vintage hair comb!

  

What do you like best about yourself?

My hair, my eyebrows, and my style ha ha!

My 16 Birthday and an Interview: Q's Daydream Vintage

Hello, everyone so today is my 16 th Birthday and in celebration I decided to interview all my

favorite blogs for the week!! There are so many other things I also plan to do this week and I will hopefully snap some photos and post them next week as for now time for interviews!!

Today I'll be interviewing Quincy from the blog Q's Daydream Vintage   She not only vary stylish but she supplies all her readers with inspirations every week!! 

If you could have lived in another ear what era would it be??

I would have to say the late 1950's to early 1960's. I love the fashions, but also Elvis would be alive and in his prime :o)

    

What was your first vintage piece??

My first vintage piece was a 1950's gingham bathing suit. I got it when I was 9 or 10.. it was way too big, lol. 

Who is you favorite designer from the past and why?

Chanel. She was the first to do so many things.

Name a blog your fond of.

Many! To name a few... Casey's Musings, Karla's Closet, Esme and the Laneway and Sweetheart of the Rodeo. There are so many more too :O)

What fascinates you the most from the past eras??

My fascination probably started with movies. I love old movies and movie stars. I also love listening to music from the past. From Billie Holiday to of course Elvis. Lets not forget the fabulous fashions!

What is your favorite way to style your hair??

 Short and simple. I really don't do much to my hair, except make sure I have an appointment to get it trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks, hehe. Though sometimes I wish my hair was long so I could do fun vintage styles, like victory rolls.

What do you like best about yourself?

I think I'm kind and thoughtful. I don't like to be mean, so I try not to be.

 Do you have a style icon?? If so please so do tell!!

There are really soooo many! To name a few.. Audrey Hepburn, Jean Seberg, Brigitte Bardot, Keira Knighley... Elvis, lol!
